Couples costume ideas for Halloween and theme parties in Tallinn: 6 duos

Updated: Sep 30
The invite lands in the group chat on a Friday: “Halloween party, costumes mandatory.” One of you is already scrolling for ideas. The other looks up and says, “I’m not painting my face green.” If you have just moved to Tallinn, there is an extra layer: half your wardrobe is still in boxes somewhere, and you have no idea where people here even get costumes. This is where most couples costume arguments start – one person wants a character, the other wants to look good. The two are not in conflict. The best couples costumes give each of you a role, share a colour code, and carry one detail that says “we came together”.
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, 31 October, and Estonia follows it with its own dressing-up tradition – St Martin’s Day on 10 November and St Catherine’s Day on 25 November, when people have gone door to door in disguise for centuries. In other words, nobody here thinks a costume in November is strange. Below are six duo ideas built from the costumes in our Tallinn showroom, a comparison table to help you choose, and the practical part: how renting for two works.
Before you choose: three rules that save the evening
One world, two roles. Identical costumes read as childish at an adult party. Captain and cabin crew, astronaut and space pilot, pirate and ringmaster – same universe, different character.
A shared colour code. If you don’t want a theme at all, two colours repeated on both of you are enough: black and red, silver and orange, purple and neon. In photos it reads as “a couple” instantly.
The comfort test. Can you sit, dance and put a coat over it? Late-October evenings in Tallinn are often below 10 °C, and the party rarely stays in one building.

Six duo ideas
1. Space mission: astronaut and space pilot
The simplest couples costume that needs no make-up and no explaining. For him, the silver astronaut jumpsuit Cosmic Commander costume with orange straps and a flag patch; for her, either a two-piece silver set with neon-orange details or a body-hugging metallic catsuit. The shared silver-and-orange code makes you recognisable as a pair from across the room, and the shiny fabric catches club lighting so the photos take care of themselves.

2. The 80s and retro disco: colour-block windbreakers
If someone in your group refuses to wear “a costume”, this is the answer. Retro tracksuit sets look like streetwear on their own, but together they form an obvious theme. For him, the colour-block jumpsuit Miami Motion costume in purple, lime and blue; for her, a purple-patterned or turquoise windbreaker set. The loose cut means you can dance all night, and this is also the easiest theme to scale up to a whole international team – one decade, everyone picks their own colour.

3. Cabin crew: captain and flight attendant
A classic that works for Halloween and for the office theme party alike – and, for anyone who arrived in Estonia with two suitcases, a very relatable one. For him, the pilot accessory set Captain Pilot costume: captain’s hat, epaulettes, white gloves, tie and wing badge go over his own white shirt and black trousers. For her, the flight-attendant set with hat, scarf and brooch over a navy dress or skirt suit – or, for more Y2K pop-star energy, the bright orange-and-pink Working The Skies costume. It is also the right pick when one of you wants to spend less: an accessory set over your own clothes is the fastest route to a character.

4. The sea and its pirates: two captains on one deck
In a country with a 3,800-kilometre coastline the sea theme always feels at home, and it gives you room: pirate, sea king, mermaid. Our two pirate looks pair well precisely because they differ – the Overseas Pirate costume with dramatic sleeves, gold details and a striped skirt, and the Seven Seas Pirate costume with a baroque-textured coat and metal buttons. If the theme is circus rather than sea, the same logic gives you ringmaster and harlequin.

5. Racing: speed queen and her pit crew
Racing aesthetics have moved straight from streetwear to theme parties, and the appeal is that they look cool rather than “costume”. For her, the black catsuit with chequered-flag panels Speedway Babe costume, the red-and-black moto jacket and mini skirt Luminous Racer costume, or a yellow-and-black racing jumpsuit. For him, his own all-black outfit in the same colour code works best here: one red or yellow detail – shirt, gloves, cap – ties you together without him wearing a jumpsuit.

6. The glam couple without a costume: velvet, sequins and two colours
Not every party wants a costume. If the invitation says “Halloween” or “theme party” but the crowd will be in cocktail dresses – common at Tallinn’s restaurant and rooftop parties – the couple’s solution is a colour code and a material. For him, the burgundy velvet Burgundy Velvet suit or the black-and-white Monochrome Stripe suit; for her, black velvet, red or sequins. We have written up her looks in detail in our elegant Halloween post. If the theme is the 1920s, the Gatsby post has a section for couples.

Which duo is yours? A quick comparison
Duo | Best for | How much “costume” | Where it works in Estonia |
Space mission | a couple who wants to shine in photos | medium – a jumpsuit, no make-up needed | club nights, office theme party, Halloween |
80s and retro disco | a group where someone “doesn’t do costumes” | low – reads as streetwear | disco theme party, birthday, team night out |
Cabin crew | a couple where one wants to spend less | low to medium – accessories over your own clothes | office party, stag and hen nights |
Sea and pirates | a couple who loves a character | high – full costume | Halloween, costume party, festival |
Racing | a couple who wants to look cool | medium – catsuit or jacket and skirt | Halloween, club, photo shoot |
Glam couple | a couple who doesn’t want a costume | minimal – colour code and fabric | restaurant party, gala, Christmas party |
Two friends rather than a couple?
Everything above works just as well with a friend, a colleague or a sibling. A duo look is not a romantic statement; it is simply two people agreeing that the evening is a shared project. If there are more of you – three, five, the whole team – pick one world (space, retro, sea) and let everyone choose their own character. Nobody has to wear “the same thing”, and the group photo still holds together.

How renting for two works: the practical part
Renting two costumes is simpler than buying one, but a few things are worth knowing. The standard rental period is up to 3 days – for a Saturday party that covers Friday and Sunday as well. Cleaning is handled by us, so you return the costumes exactly as the night left them. A booking can be cancelled up to 72 hours before the rental period starts. The full details are in our rental terms and FAQ.
The best couples costume choices happen in the showroom, trying things on side by side. We are in Tallinn at Krulli 2b, room 412, and fittings are by prior arrangement via Instagram or e-mail. If you can’t make it in person, see the delivery options.
Couple’s checklist before booking
Agree on the world before anyone books anything. One message is enough: “space or retro?”
Read both product pages in the [shop](https://www.kostuumirent.com/en/shop-all) – they list what is included and what you add yourself (the captain, for example, brings his own white shirt and black trousers).
Book one fitting together, not two separate ones – you’ll see the colour code side by side and can add accessories in the showroom.
Think about outerwear. A late-October evening in Tallinn is cold; a long coat goes over a jumpsuit, a faux-fur coat over a catsuit.
Put the return date in your calendar so the 3-day period doesn’t end unexpectedly on a Monday morning at work.
Frequently asked questions
Do couples costumes have to match exactly?
No – and usually it’s better if they don’t. Same world and a shared colour code, but two different roles (captain and flight attendant, astronaut and space pilot) look considered and give each of you your own character.
My partner refuses to wear a costume. What now?
Choose a duo where their part is small: a retro windbreaker that reads as streetwear; an accessory set over their own shirt and trousers; or simply a velvet suit in the same colour code as your costume. All three are shown as examples in this post.
Can we try the costumes on first?
Yes, in our Tallinn showroom (Krulli 2b, room 412) by prior arrangement via Instagram or e-mail. For couples we recommend coming together so you can see the two looks side by side.
How long is the rental if the party is on a Saturday?
The standard rental period is up to 3 days, so for a Saturday party you can collect on Friday and return on Sunday or Monday as agreed. The exact conditions are in the rental terms.
Do we need to wash the costumes afterwards?
No, cleaning is handled by Kostüümirent. Return the costumes as the night left them.
