Elegant Halloween 2026 in Tallinn: glam costume ideas, not cheap horror
The invitation lands in your inbox on a Friday: “Halloween party, costume mandatory.” If you are new to Tallinn, the next thought is usually practical – where do you even get a costume here, and does it have to be plastic fangs and a rubber mask? We are the Kostüümirent team, a rental studio for party wear and costumes in Tallinn, and every October we see a third option that works far better: Halloween done elegantly. Dark, dramatic, a little mysterious, and in photos it reads as a red-carpet night rather than a last-minute purchase.
Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, 31 October, so Tallinn’s bars, restaurants, international companies and expat groups will run their parties that same weekend, and invitations start arriving in early October. Below: three directions that work, an honest comparison table, a checklist and answers to the questions we hear most in our showroom – all in English, because renting here works exactly the same for you as for locals.
Why glam Halloween beats cheap horror
Cheap horror is easy, but it has three weak points. The synthetic costume does not fit and starts creasing halfway through the night. In photos it looks exactly like what it is. And you do not feel beautiful in it – and Halloween is still a party, not an obligation.
A glam look works the other way round. The base is a real party dress or a well-made costume, and the theme goes on top: a crown, tulle, gloves, wings, dramatic make-up. People recognise you as the queen, the witch or Cruella, but the first impression is “how beautiful”, not “how scary”. That is what women in their twenties and thirties ask us for most in October, and it is why our themed costumes are chosen so they would work even without a theme.
Three directions that work for Halloween 2026
1. The dark queen: crown, tulle and a long train
The safest way to be “in costume” without looking like one. A black jumpsuit with a red skeleton print, a sheer tulle skirt and a red crown – the Queen of Death costume does exactly that. If you want more playfulness, the purple-and-black Truly Wicked costume is a witch who is glamorous rather than frightening. And the Cruella de Vil costume is a classic recognised even without the two-tone wig: black-and-white jumpsuit, white fur and red gloves.

Tip: with a dark-queen look, make-up and posture matter most. A deep lip colour, styled hair and a straight back do more than any extra accessory.
2. Costume without a costume: black velvet, feathers and red
If the invitation says “costume optional” or it is a company Halloween dinner, a strong choice is a regular party dress in a dark key. Feather cuffs, velvet and deep red already carry a Halloween mood on their own. The Noir Feather cocktail dress is a black sequin mini with feathers – just add dark nails. The Velvet Temptation midi dress has long sleeves, which is also practical for an Estonian late-October night when it is dark by five and cold on the way to the taxi. The advantage of a dress like this is that within the same rental period you can wear it to a Friday dinner or a Sunday brunch as well – it does not have to wait in the wardrobe for one night only.
3. One detail that makes the look
If you already own a black dress, a Halloween look can be built from accessories alone. Long crystal-studded So Glam gloves, the crystal beret Paris After Dark hat or the large feather Sweetest Angel wings – three completely different characters on the same dress. The wings are among our most requested Halloween pieces, because they work as an angel or a fallen angel depending on the make-up.

For couples and men: dark velvet and red
Couples’ costumes do not have to be “he is Batman, I am Catwoman”. The more elegant version is a shared colour language: he wears the burgundy Burgundy Velvet suit, you wear black velvet or feathers. If you are the dark queen, a classic black suit with one themed detail, such as a mask, works for him too. And if the party is on a boat or the theme is “adventure”, the Seven Seas Pirate costume plus the long red Scarlet Empress coat is a combination nobody else at the party will be wearing.

Checklist: 10 days before Halloween
Read the invitation again: is the costume mandatory, optional, or is the theme narrower (for example “black only”)?
Pick 2–3 favourites in the shop and book a fitting at our showroom (Krulli 2b, room 412, Tallinn) via Instagram or e-mail. We speak English.
Bring the shoes and underwear you will wear to the party – a train and tulle behave differently with heels.
Plan make-up and hair before the dress: a dark queen needs a different face than an angel.
Agree on pick-up and return times. The standard rental period is up to 3 days, which covers Friday to Sunday.
If the party is cancelled, you can cancel the booking up to 72 hours before the rental period starts – details in the rental terms.
Frequently asked questions
Can I try a Halloween costume on before renting?
Yes. Fittings take place in our showroom in Tallinn (Krulli 2b, room 412) by prior appointment – message us on Instagram or by e-mail. The last week of October fills up quickly, so book early.
How long is the rental period, and does it cover the whole weekend?
The standard rental period is up to 3 days. If the party is on Saturday, you pick the piece up on Friday and return it on Monday – exact times are agreed when you book.
Do I have to wash the costume after the party?
No. Kostüümirent takes care of cleaning and care. Return the piece as the party left it.
What if the party is cancelled?
A booking can be cancelled up to 72 hours before the rental period starts. All conditions are on the rental terms page.
